Course Description

 This is a two part webinar. The first session will cover connected car definitions, applications and uses. The second session will cover analysis, procedures and interpretation. This course takes a step-by-step approach from the initial incident to the lead developed from the connected car process based on its numerous options.

 Connected cars is an available option to make investigative use of a newer vehicles' communications equipment through cell phone towers. The data can be used to actively locate a car, acquire a car's location history, or to identify an unknown car. The session is not a certification and is based on Mike's personal experience of trial and error that has generated results. The session will show the audience examples of Mike's practical use for connected cars, as well as show how he has obtained and processed the data from both an analyst and police officer perspective.

 Biography

 Mike has been a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer for 10 years, a 10 year Army veteran (Combat Engineer) and is presently a licensed California attorney. Mike works out of the CHP's Case Support Unit in Sacramento, CA which provides investigative analytical & technical support to countrywide law enforcement investigators if requested. Mike has assisted with the telecommunications aspect of hundreds of felonious investigations and has also testified as an expert witness. Mike has completed numerous hours of advanced investigator courses, technical telecommunications courses and has developed experience with the connected cars process. As a result, this experience with connected cars has developed leads, recovered missing persons, and has led to arrests. 

 In addition to working as a police officer and an attorney, Mike also works with cold cases through the Cold Case Foundation.
