The CGI Specialist assist in identifying armed violent criminals and members of violent gangs and criminal organizations who are involved in shootings, violent criminal activity, or firearms trafficking which require investigation. Specialists are needed to support NIBIN sites with the timely entry of ballistic evidence into NIBIN and, on the back end, assist in pooling intelligence across NIBIN results and other sources to quickly prepare leads for investigators. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Crime Analyst is a journey-level professional civilian classification responsible for collecting and analyzing crime data to identify patterns and trends. Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education, experience, and training that has provided the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is required for entry into the classification.  A typical combination includes:

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field; and two (2) years of administrative experience in a law enforcement agency performing duties such as research, report writing, and statistical analysis. Crime and Intelligence Analysis Certification from a program recognized by the California Department of Justice is desirable.

Licenses and/or Certificates:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driving record. A valid California Law Enforcement Teletype Systems (CLETS) certificate is required within three (3) months of employment.
